Educational Classes, Events and Support Groups
BayCare is proud to offer a wide variety of cancer support groups and specialized classes to patients and caregivers in Tampa, Clearwater, St. Petersburg, Dunedin, New Port Richey, Riverview, Safety Harbor and communities throughout the Tampa Bay area.
Due to the unique nature of the classes, the need for several locations and instructor availability, our offerings may vary across geographical regions, so the best way to find classes near you is to investigate our offerings by hospital location or view the classes and events online.
Some typical classes we offer at numerous locations include:
Look Good…Feel Better
A free American Cancer Society support program for women before, during and after cancer treatment, to teach patients beauty techniques to help reduce the appearance of treatment-related side effects.
Breast Cancer Exercise Programs
Exercise can reduce feelings of pain, fatigue, depression, and anxiety. Exercise has been shown to help patients improve sleeping patterns and increase energy levels. Not only will exercise increase your physical ability, but it can improve your overall quality of life! These classes incorporate low-impact cardiovascular training, strength, balance, coordination and flexibility exercises for all levels of fitness in a safe environment.
Yoga incorporates stress reduction techniques, including regulated breathing, visual imagery, meditation and various stretching postures to help improve strength, flexibility and balance. Mentally, yoga calms and quiets the mind, reduces anxiety and improves concentration and focus. Research suggests that stress reduction programs tailored to the treatment of cancer may help patients cope with the acute effects of treatment and improve quality of life during and after treatment.
