A Common Standard Of Excellence

Welcome to BayCare's Online Quality Report Card, where we provide you with accurate and honest information on the performance of our leading not-for-profit hospitals and how we compare with hospitals around the country and the state.

This area of our website provides information on how well BayCare's hospitals care for patients with certain medical conditions or surgical procedures, as reported by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services on its Hospital Compare website.

Quality of Care

Most of the measures included in this report feature the same data snapshot that coincides with the most current reporting period used by Hospital Compare. By doing so, we can compare our performance with the U.S. average and employ statistical formulas to depict when our scores are significantly higher or lower than the national averages for each measure.

We also would like to provide our more Recent Data that is not yet available on Hospital Compare to provide a more current view of our performance. However, by using more Recent Data, we are unable to compare these scores with the national averages, which are not available for the time period we are using.

Both of these data sets are updated quarterly as per the Hospital Compare timeline and availability of 'Recent Data.'

Survey of Patients' Hospital Experiences

A national, standardized survey of hospital patients about their experiences during a recent inpatient hospital stay. This is also referred to as HCAHPS (Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems). Recent data New!

Process of Care

Sepsis – Provides information on percentage of patients who received appropriate care for severe sepsis and septic shock. Recent Data New!

Outpatient AMI/Chest Pain - Provides information on process of care measures that tell you how many patients received treatments which are known to be effective for most adults who have had a heart attack or chest pain. This measure pertains to patients who are later transferred to another hospital. Recent Data  New!

Outpatient Imaging Efficiency Measures - Provides information on Medical Imaging tests administered to patients at our hospitals that screen for or diagnose medical conditions.

Outpatient Colonoscopy and Bone Radiotherapy Measures - Provides information on the documentation of appropriate time frames for follow up based on colonoscopy results in outpatients. Recent Data New!

Emergency Department - Provides information on how quickly our hospitals treat patients who come to the hospital emergency department. Recent Data New!

Perinatal Care – Provides information on process of care measures that tell you how well our hospitals are providing care to pregnant women that follows best practices. Recent Data New!

Outcomes of Care

Outcomes of Care metrics include 30-day mortality (when a patient dies) and 30-day readmission (when patients who have been recently hospitalized go back into a hospital again within 30 days). Both measures are adjusted to take into account how sick the patient was and are measured from the time of admission to the hospital to 30 days after the patient was discharged. These measures focus on Heart Attack, Heart Failure, and Pneumonia patients and are updated annually.

Healthcare Associated Infections are infections that occurred while the patient was in the hospital. A Central Line Associated Blood Stream Infection (CLABSI) an infection related to an IV placed in a large (central) blood vessel or vein. When these happen, the hospital identifies and corrects the problems that may have led to the event. Recent Data New!

Surgical Complications: This section shows serious events that a patient experienced during the hospital stay, or how many patients died when he/she arrived with a certain condition. Best practices are followed to help prevent these occurrences whenever possible.

Medicare Spending per Beneficiary

The Spending per Hospital Patient with Medicare measure shows whether Medicare spends more, less, or about the same per Medicare patient treated in a specific hospital, compared to how much Medicare spends per patient nationally. This measure includes any Medicare Part A and Part B payments made for services provided to a patient during the 3 days prior to the hospital stay, during the stay, and during the 30 days after discharge from the hospital.


  • Provided raw scores in each measurement area for quick comparison with national and state data.
  • Adopted a statistical formula and color coding for easy benchmarking.
    • Any score that is statistically higher than the national average receives a "Green" designation. In those indicators where we performed equal to or higher than the Top 10 percent of hospitals in the nation, we also provide a checkmark in the box.
    • Any score that is statistically lower than the national average receives a "Red" designation.
  • Incorporated links to consumer-friendly health information to help users interpret medical terms and evaluate specific measurements.
