Community Benefit and Community Health Needs
Woven into the fabric of BayCare is the steadfast belief that everyone deserves the same access to high-quality care, regardless of their ability to pay. Improving the health of the community, both inside our clinical facilities and across our neighborhoods, is part of our DNA and fundamental to why our team members get up every day and go to work.
Every year, we provide care – in the form of community benefit – to uninsured and underinsured patients. Many might not receive the care they needed without the safety net that BayCare provides.
In 2018, BayCare’s community benefit investment totaled $462 million, or 11% of our operating revenue. That means that 11 cents of every dollar was reinvested back into our community.
BayCare’s Report to the Community provides an overview of what we are working on as a health system, along with stories of our impact on patients, team members and our community.
Community Health Needs
Identifying Health Needs, Finding Solutions - BayCare Hospitals
As a leading community-based health system in the greater Tampa Bay area, BayCare Health System is committed to meeting the wide-ranging health needs of our neighbors in every community we serve. Responding to that commitment, BayCare conducted a comprehensive Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) to identify the most significant health needs across our region and develop strategies for addressing them. We used a collaborative process in the communities surrounding each of our hospitals, listening to input from the people we serve and working with community organizations that share our commitment to improve health and quality of life. In collaboration with community partners on services and solutions, using the CHNA as our roadmap, we are committed to addressing our region’s most pressing and diverse health concerns.
